The experience

DSC_0013Today we are celebrating Oma’s birthday since she will be out of town on her real birthday.  We had explicit instructions to be at The Shire at 6pm with birthday candle in hand.  Well, Team Phipps arrived about 15-20 minutes late as usual.  Not to mention that on the way to the restaurant, Benji was being quite the pain in the rear…or for Mina and pain on her scalp.  He was pulling her hair and refusing to say sorry (normally, if he says he’s sorry, he really is and won’t do it again.  if he doesn’t say sorry, it means he plans on doing it again).   Anyway, he refused to say sorry and was crying because we told him that we were not happy about that and he could not reconcile the two. The experience

IMG00708Ogre wanted to try Carolina’s, the restaurant that has taken the place of Mario’s Chiquita on 75 over by Chuy’s.  Sounded like a great plan to me.  We all loaded up and headed over.  The kids were excited about it as we drove up to the restaurant until they realized we were NOT going to Joe’s Crab Shack.  Oh well, just a few more days, kids! The experience

DSC_0176Today Mina had a piano recital to which we all went to, including Grandpoo, Oma, Lolo and Lala.  She played beautifully and I thought we’d go out to dinner after.  Well, that plan fell apart pretty quickly as Lala and Lolo were leaving for Alaska the next morning, and our celebrant, Mina, decided she’d rather go to Lala’s house.  Uh, okay.  So that left Grandpoo, Oma, Benji, me and Papa.  I’ve been wanting to go to Gregory’s Bistro ever since we realized that despite their website’s announcement of being permanently closed, they’ve been open since April! The experience

The first day back from vacation is always so hectic!  Ogre and I had a meeting downtown mid afternoon, I had a patient to admit at the hospital, the kids needed to be picked up and Mina had Hula lessons -not to mention the unpacking, laundry and “pre cleaning” for the maid that still had to happen.  I ended up going straight from the meeting to pick up the kids and took them both with me to the hospital while I did my admission, they colored at the nurses station and then I drove them both to Mina’s Hula lesson (where Benji was close to stepping on my last nerve) and then had Ogre meet us at Houlihan’s for dinner. Long Lunch at the Chart House

26 Jul 2009 In: 3 stars, Dinner, Lunch, Seafood

The experience

It was our last day of vacation and we decided that we head to the Kemah Boardwalk as it is on the way home.  We tried to eat lunch in Galveston, but the restaurant we chose was closed so we headed on to Kemah.  When we arrived and parked, we ate at the first restaurant we saw on the boardwalk, The Chart House.  I should have known when we walked in that it was going to be way to pricey, but we were already committed. The experience

After a crazy night spent at the local urgent care center for Ogre’s awful migraine, which left me driving back and forth across the island with kids in tow and put me in bed at 5am, I awoke wondering if I’d be going to the spa as planned with Adrienne.  She decided that her husband would look after the kids if Ogre wasn’t feeling well and at 1030 when we left, my kids were still asleep having endured much of the long evening with us.  Our plan was to go to our spa appointments and then meet the families for lunch after.  We are fortunate to be staying within walking distance of what seems to be the only restaurant off the strip in our direction.  Ogre had woken up and felt fine, so we all walked over to Nate’s West End Seafood and Steak.  Read the rest of this entry »

The experience

We went to the Galveston aquarium today, which by the way, was awesome.  Against Ogre’s better judgement, we decided to head straight from there to dinner.  It was 5 o’clock and we thought it would be fun to take the ferry to Crystal Beach where there was a seafood restaurant that caught Adrienne and Ogre’s eye in a magazine we read at the beach house.  I’ll just say that luckily, Benji fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep from our arrival to the ferry dock, across the water on the ferry and the FIFTEEN miles to Stingareeonce we got off the ferry.  We didn’t realize that last part, nor did we know that it would take almost 2 hours to get from the Aquarium to the restaurant by way of the ferry (wait time at the dock was at least 45 minutes).  Unfortunately, for our friends, and more so for Kaili, she did not nap on the way. The experience

photoWe did not leave Dallas til about 4:30PM and the kids (Benji) had not napped all day.  We had not even left Plano when Benji was out  and Mina was soon to follow.  I did not want to risk waking either of them up with any sort of stop, so we drove until they woke up, which thankfully, was right outside of Centerville where we often stop to get Ogre’ s favorite beef jerky.  He remembered there was a smokehouse BBQ restaurant in the grocery store where they sell the jerky and since it was already after 7pm, we decided this would be the  most optimal place to stop. About Child's Plate

Childsplate.com chronicles our journey to find the perfect family restaurant. We are looking for restaurants with excellent food and a great attitude towards kids, even the whiny, cranky ones! We will be headed out to a different restaurant every single day to provide ourselves (and you) with some entertainment and good information about DFW area restaurants. We hope you will visit frequently and use our experiences to create some fun dining experiences of your own! Watch out, DFW, the Phipps family is going out to eat!
