Ogre was finishing up lawn work (we have an acre) and as he was finishing up, I found out that I had an admission to see at the hospital. We decided it would be the best plan to eat in Rowlett so I could head over to the hospital right after dinner and they could head home. Ogre’s original plan was to eat at Carolina’s (replaced Mario’s Chiquita on 75). Since he wante d to eat Mexican, I suggested Amelia’s in Rowlett. We headed over in separate cars. The kids, of course, wanted to ride with Papa. Read the rest of this entry »
This afternoon and evening were busy (as usual). My car needed new tires, so we dropped off my car in the afternnon, then I had to take Mina to hula class, which is all the way across town while Benji napped. Our original plan was to meet somewhere like we usually do, but when I called Ogre he said Benji was still napping. I told him I would just head home and he could call me when Benji woke up and we’d play it by ear. Well, I drove all the home and no word from Ogre. I walked in and Benji was still asleep -this is like 3 hours later. So, I decided to wake up Benji since we still needed to pick up my car and eat dinner! Benji was in a super good mood when I woke him up…all smiles and ready to go eat. So we packed up, picked up MY car and then Ogre drove my car to “test” the new tires. We decided to stay near the tire place so we ended up at Red Lobster. Read the rest of this entry »
place holder for ogre.
It cooled off this weekend, and I wanted to find a nice patio where we could eat lunch. As always, we had a laundry list of errands to run include going to Central Market, so I tried to think of a place near Central Market that would have a patio that was not one of the other 300 restaurants we’ve been to already this year! I remembered that there was a cafe at Obzeet, a neat little store with imported goods. So we headed out to Obzeet. We arrived at were pleasantly surprised with some of the changes since we last ate here years and years ago.
Ogre and Dusty had a business meeting over in Addison, so we decided it would be easiest if we met out there for dinner when they were finished with their meeting. Ogre told me he’d call before 6:30 to let me know what the deal was, and not surprisingly, he called at about 10 til 7. I was pretty gosh darned ready when he called as I was now STARVING and the kids were, too. I’d already given them a snack knowing that Ogre NEVER calls on time. I packed up the kid and Ogre and I discussed where we’d meet, finally deciding on Cyclone Anaya’s, a restaurant we’ve never been to, but looked pretty interesting and seemed to be expanding. We decided to stay in Plano for dinner tonight and after some discussion, we remembered that we’d been wanting to try. This spot has been home to many restaurants over the years, but was originally a Long John Silver’s. It seems as though it’s back to it’s roots, as it is now the Fish Shack. We’ve driven by several times and it always looked packed, so we had high hopes! Read the rest of this entry »
Ogre told me that he was in the mood for soup tonight. I suggested Mr. Shabu Shabu and he thought it sounded like a pretty good idea. Mina was not with us as she was with Oma and Grandpoo. So, it was just us and the Benj. We’ve never been here before and didn’t really know what to expect. We walk in and are seated right away. The tables are long with a hot pot spot in front of every chair (they also have normal tables). We sat here since Ogre was defnitely doing his own hot pot. We put Benji in between us so we could both keep and eye on him.
Today when Ogre asked me about dinner, I remembered that on Tuesday it’s Kids Eat Free. It was Tuesday, so we set out to find the nearest Applebee’s. After getting a little lost, we finally happened upon it. We were seated right away and noticed a lot of tables with kids. Read the rest of this entry »
I was Mina’s chauffeur again this evening driving a ways to her hula class. Ogre and I decided we’d meet after her class and thought that our plan a couple weeks ago to meet halfway would work again, so we decided on the El Chico right by the Bone Daddy’s we went to two weeks ago. Mina and I, of course, arrived first and we were seated right away. Read the rest of this entry »
We decided it would be fun to do Dim Sum today. We were getting a somewhat late start, so we were worried about the crowds. We decided on Maxim’s, which seems to be the other place to get Dim Sum around here (Kirin Court being the other, but I’ll admit that I like J.S. Chen for Dim Sum in Plano). We arrived to a full parking lot, so Ogre dropped me off while he found parking. I texted him that it would be only 5-10 minutes and then after I put our name on the list I walked outside to help him with the kids. I didn’t see him anywhere so I went back inside. I waited for them inside and waited until I noticed that people were walking up and getting seated, so I asked about our number and was told that they’d called us “many times.” Apparently the wait was less than 5 minutes. They were able to seat us pretty quickly though. Read the rest of this entry »
Childsplate.com chronicles our journey to find the perfect family restaurant. We are looking for restaurants with excellent food and a great attitude towards kids, even the whiny, cranky ones! We will be headed out to a different restaurant every single day to provide ourselves (and you) with some entertainment and good information about DFW area restaurants. We hope you will visit frequently and use our experiences to create some fun dining experiences of your own! Watch out, DFW, the Phipps family is going out to eat!
