Summer Night at Bangkok City

11 Jul 2009 In: 3 stars, Dallas, Dinner, Lunch, Thai

The experience

photoI decided that I wanted Thai food tonight, and I wanted Thai food that I know I like.  I offered up either Royal Thai or Bangkok City.  Ogre chose Bangkok City, we ate here pretty frequently when Ogre lived off Lower Greenville before we got married and had all these kids!   Ogre ended up dropping the kids and me off in front of the restaurant while he found parking.  Read the rest of this entry »

Not so Prima Primavera’s

10 Jul 2009 In: 2 stars, Dinner, Italian, Lunch, Plano

The experience

We used the iPhone again to choose dinner.  We drove over not recalling ever seeing this restaurant, but we had a back up plan in place.  Luckily, we did find it and strolled over.  The kids immediately noticed a frozen yogurt place called “Spoonful” and were already making plans to eat there after dinner.  We walked in to Primavera’s for Italian tonight. The experience

I got home and Ogre apparently had decided on dinner already with the help of his iPhone.  We would be going to Houston’s.  Fine by me, I love Houston’s!  It is a little pricey though, but whatever, I’d been wanting to go there for childsplate anyway.  We drove out to the one near Addison (Ogre says there is less “people watching” at that one).  Parking was tight as usual, but we lucked out and got a spot right out front after Ogre dropped me and the kids off. The experience

Grace suggested this evening that I go eat with my dad since she couldn’t make it.  I said OK, but why?  She mentioned my mom was out of town.  I had no idea.  So when my dad arrived to pick up Mina as pre-planned, I asked about it.  They were going to go to Hooters at Mina’s request, but  my dad suggested Twin Peaks as a substitute.  I guess if Hooters and Bone Daddy’s work for the blog this would too.  So off we went to Twin Peaks.

Deja Vu at Chang Jin

7 Jul 2009 In: 3 stars, Dinner, Korean, Lunch, Richardson

The experience

photoI have been thinking about this “new” Korean restaurant in Richardson where many of my other favorite Asian restaurants are so when Ogre and Mina brought up Korean food, it immediately came to mind.  Ogre suggested some other restaurants in Dallas, but Benji has been a bad mood ALL day, so I thought better to stay near home.  So, we trekked down to Richardson and made our way to Chang Jin.

Unfortunately, as we walked up to the restaurant, Ogre mentioned that we have been here before (I hadn’t remembered), but it slowly came back to me and I realized that I was not a fan the first time…probably why I didn’t remember…it just wasn’t that memorable.  Oh well….we headed in. The experience

So today I’d be going alone to dinner after taking Mina to her hula class.  Benji would be along for the ride. Grace claimed there were no restaurants in the area so I figured I be out of luck eating near the class.  On the ride over I saw about 10 restaurants to choose from though.  After class, I took a look around and saw Sol’s Nieto Fajitas right across the street.  Sounded like a plan.

The experience

I’ve been wanting to try this restaurant that was suggested to me by a colleague for quite some time and decided tonight was the night to do it!  After all, we are coming up on our last month of childsplate!  I had to wait for Benji to awaken from his nap before rounding up the rest of the Phipps, who were upstairs playing video games.  We got ready pretty quickly and got on the road.  We ended up at Flavor (not to be confused with the Indian restaurant Flavors) in Dallas. The experience

After rushing around all morning and (me) getting up super early to round so Mina could go to hula class this am, we found that there was not hula class today (and believe me, I asked her teacher several times if they had class).   So, here the whole family was at 9 o’clock in the morning with nowhere to go.  We decided we’d see what we could eat for breakfast.  We used the nav in our car to find something and after Ogre goose chased a restaurant that did not exist, I talked him to going to the other near spot, S T Cafe (according to the nav) or Sweet Temptations Bakery and Bakery according to google.  I did have to call the restaurant to clarify where they were as it’s not easy to find (it’s between the BBVA Compass Bank and El Fenix for future reference. The experience

My partner texted me about seeing the fireworks in Rowlett and after I discussed with Ogre, we decided it could work.  I had a birthday party to take the kids to in the afternoon, but we decided we go after and meet my partner and her sweet baby girl for dinner after.  Turned out the birthday party we went to was outside in the 10o+ degree weather so I had to change clothes before dinner, which made us a few minutes late.  When we arrived, Casey was already waiting and the baby had eaten her dinner already. The experience

As dinnertime rolled around, Benji was sleeping peacefully at Lala’s house, so I told Mina that we’d go and get Papa and eat dinner without him and pick him up later.  We headed back to the house to get Ogre and as we drove down our street, we tried to figure out what’s for dinner.  I made some suggestions and gave him some grief about eating sushi without me the other night.  We asked Mina if she’d rather have sushi or korean food (what we’d narrowed down to) and she decided on sushi, I think because I missed it the other night.  So we ended up at the Blue Fish in Allen (newly opened). About Child's Plate

Childsplate.com chronicles our journey to find the perfect family restaurant. We are looking for restaurants with excellent food and a great attitude towards kids, even the whiny, cranky ones! We will be headed out to a different restaurant every single day to provide ourselves (and you) with some entertainment and good information about DFW area restaurants. We hope you will visit frequently and use our experiences to create some fun dining experiences of your own! Watch out, DFW, the Phipps family is going out to eat!
