i would be a little concerned with my 18 month old eating larger pieces of edamame; less so with my 4 year old. obviously you can choke at age at any age, but by 4 years old, they should be more in tune with their chewing and swallowing.

the problem for me is i can't see how big the edamame is before it's "popped out" so i wouldn't let benji pop them out himself. i would let mina pop them in her mouth if she would eat them, but alas, the girl despises the green veggies...

so, for the littler kids, if the edamame is bigger than a raisin, i'd be worried. so i'd inspect each one before giving it to him.

for the older kids, as long as they understand the need to bite and chew carefully, i think edamame is fine.

hope that helps and i'm glad he likes edamame, it's a very nutritious snack!

I know this is an older post so I'm not sure if you will receive this reply soon. I have a 4-year -old son and he LOVES edammame. I noticed how concerened you are about grapes/hot dogs and I'm wondering if you have the same concern about edammame. It's a "fun" green food that we can get him to eat. Thoughts?
