If you like Memphis Style - Red Hot & Blue has AWESOME ribs (and pulled pork, etc.). I prefer the dry rub ribs - and then add the Sweet BBQ (they have 4 different kinds of sauces). I can't even go without ordering double of their potato salad - just so I'll have enough to take home for later. It's just like my Memphis grandma used to make. (I swear they somehow got her exact recipe.)

I've never been to this place and sure as heck won't be trying it now! I was never a fan of Shady Oak BBQ. Also not a big fan of Dickey's either. Living in Austin definitely spoiled me for Texas BBQ.

There is a Rudy's over in Frisco, off the Tollway. It's not quite as good as the ones in Austin, but it's a reasonable facsimile.

Michael, thanks for the suggestion. I have never eaten there, but I know there are some moms on my mommy forum who swear by it also. We'll definitely be checking it out since it's pretty close to where we live and so many people like it.

Grandpoo, Okay, I think you are right since Josh/Ogre has spent all day complaining about his intestines and all night back and forth to the bathroom! He's decided that he would not go back on a bet either and that he wants to change the title to "We hate you, Peggy Sue BBQ." Sheesh. And Dickey's??? Come on, now. I know there's a big Dickey's following, but I don't get it.

Other readers: I told you Grandpoo was vocal and opinionated!

As a participant in this fiasco, and someone who has really wanted to try this joint out for years (we get distracted by Kuby's around the corner), I have to say this place is really overrated. Accepting that barbecue is a very personal thing and sauces can make and break it, you still have to have the sides and some modicum of service. Peggy Sue's was deplorable on all counts and only average on the 'cue IMHO. How they possibly get the raves is beyond my understanding. The only thing passable was a reasonably good salad bar.

And, the pie was fried in rancid oil - coming from a long line of hillbillies, I know rancid oil. My son has apparently not been exposed. I was obviously a protective father.

I would not go back to this place on a bet - and would point you to anywhere but this place. The fact that they keep showing up on the DMN list is just indicative of how crappy a newspaper they have become.

For Texas barbecue, it's Sonny Bryan's or Dickey's. The only Memphis barbecue around was the Tony Roma's chain which mysteriously disappeared overnight - much to my disappointment.

Saw the post on Spring Creek. I have mixed opinions of them. They are decent but not the upper tier, again IMHO. Try Sonny Bryan's and see what you think.

Finally, GREAT title Josh, IMHO!

I seem to remember you were disappointed with the closing of Shady Oak BBQ? Have you tried Spring Creek BBQ the original of that chain? I have to admit, it's my fave BBQ around.
